Accurate measurement of color, texture and chemical composition made easy
VideometerLab is a color and texture measurement vision system. The system is based on a high-intensity integrating sphere illumination
featuring light emitting diodes (LED) together with a
high-resolution B/W camera. The well-defined and diffuse illumination of the optically closed scene enhances the true color as well as color variation of samples.
VideometerLab integrates lighting technology, camera technology and computer hardware with advanced digital image analysis.
Color and Texture
Natural and industrial materials often have surfaces with non-uniform color and textural properties. Conventional optical measurement equipment only measures in a single point or averages over a fixed area. For material with non-uniform color and textural surfaces these measurements will not result in objective measurements of visual quality.
The use of LEDs emitting light in the ultraviolet (UV) or
near-infrared (NIR) region adds information which is not visible to
the human eye. As an example, most objects are white or transparent
in the NIR region, which allows for the separation of color and
surface properties of the measured object.
Using VideometerLab color and color texture are enhanced and
variations due to topographical texture and gloss properties are
suppressed. Advanced vision technology makes objective measurement of visual quality possible. The system gives a flexibility and accuracy, which will not be obtained by traditional measurement methods.
Objective Measurement of Visual quality
The VideometerLab system is able to measure the visual perception of visual quality of a material, as the human eye perceives it. Several studies show that the system is more feasible and accurate than traditional evaluation methods obtained by test panels; the system is able to reproduce the same results as test panels with a significantly higher repeatability.
VideometerLab thus eliminates the human factor of visual evaluation and inspection.
Application Fields
-
Surfaces/Materials
Visual quality of material surfaces can be measured accurately and objectively.
Products like textile, paper, fur, wood, metal, ceramics, plastics can be
measured
-
Food Industry
Visual properties are often very informative quality indicators in the food industry.
VideometerLab easily measures color and color texture related to properties on e.g. bread, cheese, meat, sugar, grain, and
beans. UV and NIR wavelengths add chemical information.
